Drinking fresh orange juice can boost your immune system, aid blood circulation, and even help detoxify your body! There really is no reason not to drink it!

Freshly pressed vs store bought OJ

Store-bought orange juice is actually not as healthy for you as you might think. It contains a lot of added sugar, and the vitamin C actually begins to break down as soon as the fresh juice is pressed. This means that all the 'healthy goodies' have to be added back into the juice to make it 'healthy' again. Doesn't sound right to me!

Commercially available orange juice has so many added flavors, additives and other preservatives that freshly squeezed orange juice is by far the healthiest option.

removal of the pulp(what most commercial brands do),removes many of the vitamins and mineralslike you would get by squeezing your own orange juice at home.

Different varieties of oranges.

It doesn't matter what kind of oranges you use to make your freshly squeezed juice. Sweet oranges include varieties such asValencia, ynavel oranges, menblood oranges,Clementines, mineolas, and tangerines can also be used to make homemade orange juice.

Of course, the variety of oranges will affect the flavor and natural sweetness of the finished product, but this basically comes down to personal preference!

How long can you keep freshly squeezed orange juice in the fridge?

Freshly squeezed orange juice can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight, non-reactive container for 2 to 3 days.

The acid in the juice will start to eat away at the plastic, so using glass bottles or jars is the best option. Stainless steel containers or bottles will also work, but again the acid can react with some metals, creating off-flavored juice.

I LOVE freshly squeezed, once you get it you can't buy it in the store. The juicer is a must. Freshly squeezed is one of my splurges. Everyone should have a glass a day for better health. I can't say enough. If I didn't live in the mountains, I would definitely have an orange tree!
